American Express raises foreign currency transaction fees to 2.95%, adds GrabPay wallet top-ups, SPC to list of exclusions

Amex hasn’t really been the most popular card to hold for miles chasers given its relatively lower earn rates.

Spend S$300 at Hilton properties and get S$60 back with your American Express cards

American Express is currently running an offer targeted at select Amex cards, offering a S$60 credit when you spend a minimum of S$300 at any Hilton hotels. The spend can be made either through a prepaid reservation directly on, through the Hilton app, or even through a phone reservation with Hilton. However, food and beverage spending in a bar or restaurant within a Hilton property is excluded, unless this is charged to the room and settled upon check-out. The offer is valid for stays in participating properties located in Australia, Mainland China (Beijing, Guangzhou, Sanya, Shanghai, Shenzhen), Hong Kong, India, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore & Thailand. For those holding the Platinum Card, you will be targeted with an even better offer: spend S$500 and get back S$200 in credit. How to sign up? All you need to know about American Express Krisflyer bonus miles promotions

3 key promotions that you need to know about. Amex is not my top choice of card when it comes to earning miles – their base earn rates are pretty crap at 1.2 mile per dollar spent (mpd). But with the regular promotions that Amex is running, this may not be the case, although you have to keep a tight watch over how much you are raking up with your Amex cards given that the caps are pretty low. (1) Daily Essentials promo – Earn up to 3.3 mpd Earn up to 3.3 KrisFlyer miles per S$1 spent with your Amex Singapore Airlines-branded cards, on what Amex term as “daily essentials”, which are the following merchants: Starbucks Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf MacDonalds Subway (except stores in hospitals and schools) Deliveroo Foodpanda Unity (except outlets in FairPrice) Watsons Sistic There’s a cap of S$200 spend per month. That’s enough to cover 1 Starbucks drink or a MacDonalds meal a day, so drink away and earn up to 660 miles per month along the way. (2) …

Earn 4 bonus miles per dollar spent on Scoot with American Express Krisflyer cards

From now until 18 June 2019, earn an extra 4 miles per dollar spent on Scoot, when using the Singapore Airlines branded American Express cards. The bonus miles is on top of the base earn rates (i.e. 1.3 mpd for the PPS branded cards, 1.2 mpd for the Ascend and 1.1 mpd for the blue Krisflyer card), so that means you will earn up to 5.3 miles per dollar spent. The maximum number of bonus miles you can earn is capped at 1,200 miles, i.e. S$300 spend. That’s not a difficult one to hit. There’s also no restrictions on where you need to begin your trip in, so that makes planning really flexible. To qualify for this offer, you must either have received an email from Amex, or log into your Amex app to check if you are served the offer. The offer is limited to the first 10,000 registrations although I have not heard of anyone who was rejected.
