And for American Express cardholders, earn bonus miles if you spend at least $180
Most of us are probably not going to be doing any duty-free shopping in the near term, but you can at least scratch some of that shopping itch and earn some extra miles by shopping on KrisShop for now.
The promo
Between 12 and 26 May, KrisShop is dishing out 3 KrisFlyer miles per S$1 spent, instead of the usual 1.5 miles. Needless to say – you will need to be a Krisflyer member first to earn the miles.
This promotion is only valid for purchases made on KrisShop.com, and does not extend to inflight purchases or purchases via the KrisShop order form (not that you’ll be able to do so anyway given SIA has done away with in-flight duty free sales for now).
The minimum spend for free local delivery has also be lowered from S$100 to S$50.
Note that you will be awarded the usual number of miles first, with the bonus miles coming in 6 to 8 weeks after 26 May.
Additional miles for Amex cardholders
For those paying with American Express cards, you will earn the following extra miles:
- 500 miles for min spend of S$180, or
- 1000 miles for min spend of S$350
The above bonus miles are awarded on a per transaction basis, and customers can only earn either bonus (but not both, i.e. if you spend S$350 you get 1000 miles, not 1,000 + 500 miles). Based on the promotion terms of conditions, note that the S$350 ‘nett’ has to be exclusive of tax:
Nett spend is calculated based on the portion paid on your American Express card, excluding payment made with KrisFlyer miles, vouchers, shipping and taxes.

With this Amex bonus, you will earn up to 6.67 mpd on your purchases of at least S$180:

Final thoughts
Given that most of us are not going to spending on airfares anytime soon, this is indeed quite a good initiative to capture some revenue through non-traditional streams for airlines.
This promo came also at a right time, given that most of the non-essential shops in Singapore are closed, forcing most people online to purchase items such as electronics, wines and other goods.
I’ll be definitely taking advantage of this promo, so act fast if you are thinking the same.
