Singapore Airlines and Silkair increase flights in July 2020

Slight increase over June’s operations, but still down 94% from last year Singapore Airlines and Silkair has updated its July flight schedules, operating to a total of 27 cities across 18 countries/territories. While this is no change from June, there are some favourable developments, including the commencement of transit traffic from select countries. Singapore Airlines schedule Singapore Airlines has not announced any ‘new’ destinations that it will be serving in July, but some notable observations for July schedules are as follow: Auckland now sees three flights a week, up from two in the month of June Flights to Manila are now possible, albeit only two services in the month of July Scoot has resumed a weekly service to Taipei, and also planned some ad-hoc services to Surabaya towards the end of July [Update 8 July] Silkair has removed its earlier planned services to Cebu, while Singapore Airlines will be commencing twice-weekly flights to Paris from 15 July. Singapore Airlines extends transit arrangements to more countries

Passengers from China, Japan, and South Korea can now transit via Changi In another good turn of events, Singapore Airlines announced on 22 Jun that customers from China, Japan and South Korea can now travel via Singapore to any points on the SIA network, including destinations served by Silkair or Scoot. Singapore Airlines has earlier commenced transit facilities for passengers travelling from Australia and New Zealand since 11 Jun.  Tickets for these new transit flights have been made on sale since 23 Jun (Tue) on the Singapore Airlines website. Singapore Airlines commences transit arrangements for passengers from Australia, New Zealand

Transit via Singapore only applicable for customers travelling one-way from seven cities in Australia and New Zealand Singapore Airlines announced Tuesday (11 Jun) that it has gotten regulatory approvals to facilitate transit journeys from a handful of cities in Australia and New Zealand. Singapore authorities have earlier announced that it will allow transit passengers once again from 2 Jun, subject to regulatory approval of airlines’ plans to manage these passengers. The onus was on airlines to submit a proposal in managing to health risks and segregating transit passengers away from departing passengers. Singapore Airlines transit-approved origin cities Customers travelling from the following cities will be allowed to transit in Singapore: Australia: Adelaide Brisbane Melbourne Perth (on Scoot) Sydney New Zealand: Auckland Christchurch Note that the transit arrangement is only applicable one-way from Australia and New Zealand to any other SIA destinations. There is currently no transit arrangements for journeys via Singapore into Australia and New Zealand, so customers from anywhere else wanting to visit these two countries will have to find alternative routings. The carriers will operate over 800 flights to and from 27 cities over the next two months, up from the 15 cities served in May In another encouraging news, Singapore Airlines and Silkair announced on Monday (1 Jun) that it will be expanding the list of destinations they will fly to in June and July. Both carriers will operate to a total of 27 cities across 18 countries/territories. Transit through Singapore still not possible yet While this expanded network is a move towards allowing passengers to transit through Singapore in the near term, SIA has mentioned transit is still not possible for now until its plans for transfer procedures have been finalised. The Singapore aviation authority has earlier announced that transit passengers will be allowed through Changi Airport from today (2 Jun), subject to approvals of plans submitted by airlines on safe transfers of passengers. The transit market will be critical to Singapore Airlines and Silkair, given that roughly a third of all passengers travelling through Changi are transit passengers, and most of these passengers …

Changi Airport to allow transit passengers again from 2 Jun

The opening of transit facilities come after an all-out ban on transit and short term visitors into Singapore since 24 Mar Singapore earlier this week (19 May) announced that it will officially be ending its ‘circuit breaker’ on 1 Jun, and doing a slow re-opening of the domestic economy in a three-phase approach. Later in the evening, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) also issued a media release announcing that it will be allowing transit passengers through Changi Airport from 2 Jun as well, after local lockdown restrictions ease. Transit visitors banned since 24 Mar Since 24 Mar, Changi Airport has banned transit passengers on top of barring all short term visitors in order to combat the spread of Covid-19. Of course, with no more leisure visitors and the absence of transit passengers, Changi’s passenger movements fell drastically. In April alone, Changi Airport only handled 25,200 passengers, 99.5% lower than the previous year’s 5.58 million passengers.
