Details of the Singapore-Hong Kong ‘Air Travel Bubble’ has been announced. Here’s what you need to know from testing to flights, landing arrangements and more. As promised, the Singapore authorities today shed more light on the details of the first Air Travel Bubble (ATB) arrangements between Singapore and Hong Kong. From 22 Nov, there will be one flight a day with an initial quota of 200 passengers. This increases to 2 flights a day from 7 December, with a total of 400 visitors to be carried each day. The story so far… When the bilateral ATB was first announced back in October 2020 by Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam and Singapore’s Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung, it was met with much excitement by residents on both ends. The excitement arose from the fact that this is the first true leisure travel arrangement, with no restrictions on the type of travel and, more importantly, no quarantine required at either end of the journey. Singapore Airlines to operate non-stop services to New York JFK from November

The three-times a week service will bypass Frankfurt for the first time since the 1990s. Singapore Airlines has announced the resumption of its Singapore-New York service, this time round with a non-stop service to New York’s John F. Kennedy (JFK) international airport. The non-stop flights to New York will restart from 9 Nov 2020 operating three times a week, using the 3-class variant of its Airbus A350 aircraft. This will be the airline’s second US destination after Los Angeles since the network reduction due to Covid-19. For the record, SIA used to serve two airports in the Greater New York area just before Covid-19 struck: a daily service to JFK via Frankfurt, and a second non-stop service to Newark Liberty Airport (EWR). The schedule Singapore Airlines has picked new flight numbers – SQ24 and SQ23 – for this service. Fun Fact: SQ23/24 was the same flight numbers SIA used to operate Singapore-Amsterdam-Newark back in the 1990s up to early 2000s. The flights were operated using the Boeing 747s. Singapore-Hong Kong leisure travel bubble to commence ‘soon’

No quarantine required, but pre-trip Covid-19 tests and booking of ‘dedicated flights’ required if you want to go In a surprise move, Singapore newly-minted Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung announced on Thursday (15 Oct) that it has confirmed a travel arrangement with Hong Kong to allow ‘general travel’ for residents between both countries. The most salient point of this agreement is that there will be “no restrictions on travel purpose”, effectively making this the first leisure ‘green lane’ for Singapore and Hong Kong residents, since the COVID-19 closed most borders this year. Travellers will be subject to Covid-19 PCR testings that are recognised by both governments, but will not need to serve any isolation requirements nor be subjected to movement restrictions under ‘controlled itineraries’. Travellers can also only travel on dedicated flights that only serve travellers under this Air Travel Bubble (ATB) arrangement. First run in two weeks’ time sold out in 30 minutes, SIA looking to add new slots As expected, the Restaurant A380@Changi seats sold like hotcakes, with all available seats over two days snapped up within 30 minutes. According to media reports, Singapore Airlines said it sold about half the seats on each aircraft due to social distancing, which means that only about 200+ seats are sold on each day. Interestingly, Straits Times has said that it has sold “over 900” seats for the first run, so either the newspaper has gotten the numbers wrong, or SIA has implied that it is opening up more than one aircraft for the session. New sessions added Given the overwhelming response, Singapore Airlines has committed to adding at least four more sessions on 24, 25, 31 Oct and 1 Nov 2020.
