Qantas puts Project Sunrise on hold

Non-stop flights from Sydney, Melbourne to London, New York will have to take a stop for now Qantas has suspended its plans for direct flights between Australia east coast to London and New York, also called Project Sunrise, due to uncertainty over travel demand even after Covid-19 fades. Project Sunrise was set to launch by 2023, but in a report by Executive Traveller, Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce has confirmed that the project will be put on hold, for now. A350 orders put on hold Qantas has earlier announced that it would order 12 dedicated A350-1000 for this project. The final decision was meant to be made in March 2020, but of course in the face of Covid-19, this was quickly paused indefinitely. According to Executive Traveller, the dedicated fleet of up to 12 Airbus A350-1000 jets would have been “valued as high as $6.8bn (US$4.4bn) based on Airbus’ list price”, Qantas announced Project Sunrise proposal as early as August 2017, initially mapping out potential non-stop destinations such as New York, London and Rio de Janeiro from …

Qantas to mount repatriation flights from four cities to Australia

Flights from Auckland, Hong Kong, London and Los Angeles to Australia will be available for those looking to return to Down Under Qantas has announced a series of rescue flights to bring back Australians to Australia over the next few weeks. Four cities are chosen: Auckland, Hong Kong, London and Los Angeles – arguably the most significant city for Australia in each continent – where there will be at least one flight a week. Qantas said that these flights are mounted to facilitate essential travel as well as for Australians who with to return home. For those who wish to book, you will have to book direct on Qantas.com. The fine print Given that these flights are mounted under extraordinary circumstances, there are some caveats for these flights, which Qantas has listed on their page. Earn double status credits on Qantas Frequent Flyer

Register for the promotion and book a flight from now until 25 Feb 2020, 9pm Singapore Time. For the minority of you who are Qantas Frequent Flyer members, Qantas is running its double status credits promotion again. The promotion runs until 25 Febuary 2020 9pm Singapore Time, for travel between 28 February 2020 and 14 February 2021. How to register for the promotion The mechanics are fairly simple:1. Register for the promotion here. Needless to say, you need to be a Qantas Frequent Flyer member first. You will receive an email confirmation, after which you are good to book your flights. 2. Book your flight between 20 to 25 February 2020. Your flight(s) must be between 28 February 2020 and 14 February 2021. Note that the deadline for booking is 11.59pm AEDT (Sydney time), so that means 9pm Singapore time. 3. Only Qantas-operated flights with a Qantas flight number (QF XXXX) are eligible for the promotion.
